For First Responders

Many people aren't aware that cancer due to toxicity is a growing concern for first responders. According to the International Association of Firefighters, 60 percent of career firefighters die from cancer.

A Special Message for Firefighters and Other First Responders

Salus Saunas believes everyone should have a sauna.

However, we KNOW firefighters and other first responders NEED a sauna. Fire departments around the country are installing infrared saunas and consider them as essential gear, just like masks and helmets.

Your health is on the line when you are on the front lines. 60 percent of career firefighters die from cancer.

Why?

Materials used in modern construction are based on chemicals instead of natural materials, and these materials burn off over 800 toxins and carcinogens. Research has found that body absorption increases 400% for each 5-degree increase in temperature. You’rerepeatedly exposed to more dangerous toxins at a time when your body is most prone to deep absorption;over time, this toxic build-up takes a toll. Yes, the body does rid itself of some toxins; however, sweating is by far better at ridding the body of heavy metals and other toxins. In addition to symptoms of toxicity and cancer, firefighters have more incidences of sarcoidosis (a disease of the lymph nodes) and respiratory issues.

Why an infrared sauna?

For three years after 9/11, 500+ first responders and rescue workers (mostly firefighters) participated in a sauna detox protocol. Before treatment, participants (averaged) missed two days of work and had four limited activity days per month. Over half of the participants were on pulmonary medication, and over 80% were on other medicines for skin, emotional, cognitive, and musculoskeletal problems. After 30 days, participants missed an average of 0.2 days of work. At the end of the study, over 85% of participants discontinued medications, and 73% were able to stop pulmonary medications completely. Participants also showed significant improvements in thyroid function, balance, reaction time, and cognitive ability.

Those patients used traditional saunas and sessions of 2-5 hours. Infrared saunas are more effective and efficient at removing toxins which allow for shorter sessions. You’ll feel better, miss fewer days of work, and (according to anecdotal evidence) reduce the fire smell your body carries home.

Aren’t saunas a luxury item?

Other fire departments don’t think so.

“For us, that’s a small price to pay for potentially saving someone’s life,” Hill said. “The benefit outweighs the risk tremendously. It’s like why wouldn’t we do an extra step to ensure that our firefighters don’t have cancer?” Assistant Chief Jermaine Hill, Forest Park Fire Dept. (Interview with WLWT5)

“If we don’t invest in this technology, we feel like we’re leaving one of the cards out of the deck,” said Madison Fire Chief Steve Davis. (Interview with NBC15)

Infrared sauna therapy has been proven to assist in detoxification and increase longevity. Since infrared sauna therapy was successfully used after 9/11 to assist first responders, several studies have shown the benefits of this modern twist on centuries-old health rituals. Several fire departments around the US have purchased infrared saunas for their firehouses.

We believe you will find our saunas ideal for your firehouses. Our infrared saunas, like the Glory and Dynamic, are compact, easy to assemble and maintain, use standard 15V or 20V outlets (depending on the model), and are safe and efficient. There is no construction, plumbing, or complicated wiring to deal with. The saunas can go on any surface, including carpet, laminate, or concrete.

At Salus Saunas, we believe everyone should have access to the best in health and wellness. We’ve offered first responders steep discounts on our saunas for years and we would be honored to work with you on providing access to infrared sauna therapy in your firehouses and extending the discount to your firefighters and staff. We pride ourselves on our service. We have an A+ BBB rating and many positive reviews from our customers.

Read a few or all of the links below and then give Salus Saunas a call. We have a unique discount program for first responders to get a sauna in your home (or condo/apartment). We will also work with you, your union, your department, or municipality to put an infrared sauna at your station.
