How Much Will It Cost to Operate My Sauna

Sal Fais |

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is "how will my sauna affect my utility costs?" That depends on whether you decide on an infrared sauna or a traditional steam sauna. Infrared saunas generally have cheaper operating costs than traditional saunas because they require dedicated amp plugs (for medium to large units) and don’t require breakers like traditional saunas. Traditional saunas, on the other hand, use more energy to reach optimal temperatures and they operate on hot rock heaters which require more energy.

It's important to take into account that infrared saunas take less time to heat up to the optimal or maximum temperature (30 minutes) than traditional saunas. Infrared units reach 151 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal use, while traditional saunas go up to 180 degrees Fahrenheit and also have the capability to generate humidity or steam. Overall, it's important to consider the capacity, costs, dimensions of a sauna when selecting the one that is best for you. You can use our sauna cost calculator below to get an idea of the cost and customize it to your usage and local energy rate. If you are still not sure which sauna is right for you?
